Keeping in the theme of the Christmas season and the Holidays and ohh yeah, cold, frosty, frigid weather something that most people over look are heat tracers for your gutters and down spouts. There is nothing worse than seeing a large block of icecles hanging over your front door or over your garage overhead or any other part of the house and not knowing when they will melt or break off and fall down and cause either property damage or actually harm a loved one or the mailman. Heat tracers are a perfect way to eliminate that headache and give you a little peace of mind. They are basically pulled up through your down spout and laid down in your gutters and along the bottom foot or so of your roof in a zig zag pattern.
There are many types of heat tracers from 120 volts and 220 volts to standard plug-ins that work off of a switch to temperature/moisture self regulating units that turn on and off automatically. Installation of any of the these units should be done by a licensed electrician due to the fact that there are load calculations and that need to be done as well possible circuit adjustments depending on the units being installed. I promise you after installing these units you will wonder why ever you waited.
