GFI Outlets

Protecting yourself and your loved ones against electric shock should be a priority on everyone’s list of to do’s. If you don’t have GFI (ground fault interrupter) outlets in areas around your home that need to have GFI’s then you should call a licensed electrician in your area to come by and install them for your you. Area’s that you should have a GFI include bathroom’s kitchen, bar area, basements, outside and garages. In the bathroom the GFI outlet should also carry the lighting the bathroom on the load side of the GFI. Most local and National codes require that have at least 2 GFI circuits in the kitchen and any outlets within 6 feet of a sink should be GFI protected. Basements generally will just get a GFI circuit breaker for all the outlets in the basement and the outside outlets should be replaced with GFI outlets and proper outlet covers, I usually like using “in-use” covers because if you can plug in whatever it is you are using and then close the cover over the cord. The set up is great from landscape lights or plug in motors for outdoor fountains. Pretty much any place in or around your home that is not dry or can be affected by water needs a GFI.
