I was just driving around my neighborhood tonight with my wife and son when I realized just how dark a a lot of the houses in the neighborhood were. There were a few here and there that had a light on by the front door or by the garage or maybe even a few dimly lit solar powered landscape and that might be over stating it just a bit, I’m referring to the intensity of the solar powered lights. I am not sure why people don’t like to light up the outside of their homes. When we moved into our first house besides the landscape lights perimeter motion sensor lighting was the very next task I crossed off the list. I pretty much installed motion sensors on every corner of the house and even on my detached garage.
Having motion sensitive lights is great for saving energy because you can set them to stay on only for a few minutes or even seconds so that your walkway is always lit when you come home or when you leave. You can also set the sensitivity on it so that you don’t catch the motion from your neighbor’s dog or kid’s playing across the street. But as for me, one of the main reasons I installed them was for security and peace of mind, sometimes the best way to fend off a would-be burglar is to just shine the light on him.
