Landscape lighting is a great way to spruce up the outside appearance of a home as well adding value and safety to your home and even your neighborhood. When I purchased my first home in Skokie Ill landscape lighting was one of the first things I installed to improve the outside look of my house give it some much needed curb appeal. It was a small Cape Cod style house on a quiet suburban street that really wasn’t that well lit at night. By installing four or five simple 35 watt halogen bulb low voltage fixtures that worked of off a 300 watt low voltage transformer, it really changed the look of my home at night and really made it glow.
Most landscape lighting from your local home center are of the plug in variety and would just need a outdoor rated enclosure with a GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) outlet. Most landscape lights pretty easy to assemble and the wiring is low voltage direct burial it just needs to covered a little bit so that pets and outdoor animals don’t get at it, I usually go about 6 inches or so in areas where you won’t have to much traffic, you might even consider going deeper if need be. If you do not have a outlet outside or your village requires conduit for your landscape lights then you would need to call a licensed electrician to install them for you at your desired location.
